The widely popular action hero, Iron Man, is known to fight evil with his powered suit of armour that can be deconstructed and reconstructed at the snap of a finger. With inspiration stemming from the public’s favourite fictional figure, this jaw-dropping apartment, snuggled in a quiet corner of Clementi was born.
Emulating the futuristic look of the superhero, the apartment was designed with special attention being paid to the minute details and through the intertwining fragmented forms into the joinery. As such, the central ceiling was designed to slant and turn at varying angles while the feature wall where the TV sits doubles up a divider to physically separate the bedroom and the walk-in wardrobe. Geometric glass panels, however, were also installed to visually connect the two areas. A large polygonal mirror was mounted on the other side of the wall to create the illusion of a wider room.

The abstraction of beautiful fragmented forms and minute details transformed into a delightful spatial experience.
The custom-made TV console is sleek and comprises of angular details along the edge where it transitions into a part of the dresser located in the walk-in wardrobe. Black-tinted mirrors were used to create part of the wardrobe doors while the rest were finished with a textured grey laminate for a more futuristic appearance.
In a dimly lit spot of the apartment, affectionately named the “dark zone”, rows and rows of collectible figurines sit motionlessly in the display cabinets that were designed using black-tinted mirrors and finished with a black laminate. To further highlight the beauty of these works of art in a more dramatic fashion, concealed lighting was installed towards the back of the cabinets.
Ultimately, it is through the subtle implementation of such fragmented forms and the interplay of materials and lighting that a sense of excitement and an element of surprise are formed, producing a delightful addition to an otherwise dark apartment.
